Breath is a moving, flowing interface between
opposites that exist in life.
Breath travels between body/material and
spirit/invisible/energetic.
Breath is like a messenger that passes wisdom, ideals,
needs, desires, and emotions between the human
aspect of self and the eternal aspect of Self.
Breath is the weaver, the maker of reality and the fire within.
We use the 8 Limb Practice called Pranayama as one of the tools that support the building of an internal foundation. "Prana" means "life force" and "ayama" means "to extend". Pranayama practice regulates the nervous systems, brings vitality and clarity to our mind, but most importantly it is the practice that brings us into connection with the body. The teachings of Yoga, like many other spiritual practices or philosophies, teach us that through tending to a practice of physical nature with sincere trust and awareness we discover many truths that exist at one time and our internal struggles are reduced
It is a perfect time to enter into a breath practice! Generational chapters are marked by the movign of the outer planets into new astrological signs. They stay from 1 to 20 or more years. Each time an outer planet moves to a new home in the Zodiac its like new topics and growth being initiated in our lives. A new era, so to speak, is being ushered in. This year into next the sky mirrors significant generational, collective, and personal changes as Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are all changing signs. This is a perfect time to bring a personal breath practice into your life. Breath practices are a great way to dedicate and honor the changes that are happening both internally and externally. Breath helps to clear out and clear up some old chapters and the energetic and emotions that hang within us. Breath practice readies us for the start of a new story or chapter within the story.
For me, a big generational change and internal emotional shift is tied to all 3 of my children starting to fly to the nest; Yay! Whoa! These large scale shifts in my role as a mother, as a women, my view of myself, my relationship with them and not to mention all the time and energy and space in my mind that has been devoted to tending to their growth. It's all milestone life stuff, it's wonderful, and yet it is terrifying! It still needs to be felt and needs time or moments of reorientation and adjustment to the new way of being, seeing, and relating. These changes also have brought up two deep wounds that I thought I had worked through. At least I can say hello! I know them and tend to that tender space within me. As many of you know the closest people in our lives also bring up and stir up out deeps vulnerable feelings within us. Breath practices are a loving way to tend to these big changes and big feelings that help us to let the energy move, to ground us, clear us, and then allows us to bring in new imagination to create for the next chapter!
The Foundations of Breathwork is part of the Building a Home for Spirit Course developed to offer students a step by step approach to creating a personal relationship to their body and to their Yoga Practice. One of the important shifts that happens in developing a breath practice is that our GPS guidance system turns from external channel to an internal channel. The new internal connection results from spending time observing the breath and the bodies repsonse to breath, its qualities, how it beahves. What we learn to feel and sense is the wisdom of body and of universal energetic truths. This type of shift is a game changer in our ability to trust ourselves and trust that we have an invisible partner to help us bring the creations of our most beautiful inner world and imagination to our living world.
