Yoga is an Experiential System
The Art of Breath and Movement
Trust the system and container of the practice. You are an artist creating with breath. Use your breath to shape your intentions from the inside out. The feeling of the shape becomes the shape itself. Your mind will come to your body for service and devotion. You create together!
Focus your gaze on a single point in each asana. This helps your mind and intentions become part of the creation, rather than separate from it.
Curiosity: The Key to Self-Discovery
Curiosity is essential. It opens the door to wonder. Ask yourself, "What if I change one variable? What happens to my breath, my body?" Your body becomes a laboratory! You not only discover something new about your relationship with yourself but also feel the consequences of that relationship.
Yoga is a Devotional Practice
Surrender to the Breath
Surrender to the universal life force of breath. Breath leads all movement, flowing like a river of consciousness and vitality. It yokes the mind into the service of the universal flow of breathing.
Embrace the natural rhythm of filling up and letting go. This duality nourishes your growth as an individual while dissolving the boundaries that separate us. Allow your mind to find comfort in the many and the one, the duality and oneness of life.
Yoga is a Reflection of You
The Mirror of Your Practice
Look to your practice as a mirror or a dear friend. It reflects both your light and your dark. What comes easy often has a mental, emotional, or spiritual component. Seek to understand yourself rather than judge yourself.
Hold hands with the mirror so you can self-integrate and accept all the pieces of yourself. Approach this with love and courage. Change your perspectives and the stories you tell yourself.
Yoga is a Symbolic Language
Understanding Through Symbols
There is an intelligence that speaks to you without words. It manifests as feelings, senses, and a knowing in the body. This symbolic understanding is profound. For example, consider how your feet and legs symbolize foundation, security, and steadiness.
Why is that? The legs support us, move us, and provide for us. If they are damaged or weak, we may struggle in life. Recognizing this connection can deepen your practice and understanding.
